In the year 4046 A.D. of the Earth Era, the Varnian race, a highly intelligent race from an extragalactic star system, invaded the colonized planet. Humans fought back at the first sign of the invasion, but the entire Earth coalition fell apart the following year in the face of the Varnians, whose brains had evolved to the point where they could interfere with intelligent beings through brainwaves.
